California’s Coachella Valley grape output may slip in 2021, as bearing grape acreage has declined and the industry has consolidated, said George Tudor, president and owner of Tudor Ranch, Mecca, Calif. Grower-shippers seem divided over the impact of black varieties. October 14th, Chilean Exports of Protected Grape Varieties Grow by 17%

In terms of exports from the southern hemisphere, including India, Urrutia highlighted that if comparing the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 campaigns, Chile is the origin that has recorded the greatest drop in the volume of table grape shipments, with 11%, while countries like Peru, Australia and India have recorded increases of 39%, 35% and 25%, respectively. “Despite that, Chile continues to be the biggest exporter of table grapes in the southern hemisphere, with a 44% share,” he said, adding that Chile’s decline in exports is also due to a varietal replacement currently underway. August 21st, 2018 Brazil’s Argofruta licensed to market Sun World grapes.

Sun World added the Brazilian company to its list of licensed growers, allowing Argofruta to expand seedless production and give them access to domestic and international markets, according to a news release. Argofruta, Petrolina, Brazil, specializes in grapes, but also grows melons, ginger, limes, mangoes, guavas and passion fruit. The U.S. grape season is now picking up after a slow campaign from Mexico and California’s Coachella Valley, with the San Joaquin crop looking to be around a record level.
