Consumer Handling Tips
Storage Life: Room Temperature – 4-5 days, Refrigerator – 2-3 weeks, Freezer – 6 months
Selection: Citrus do not continue to ripen once they are harvested so choose firm, smooth-skinned, shiny, and brightly colored fruit.
Storage: When refrigerating, store in a perforated bag to avoid mold. Refrigerate peeled citrus within two hours of serving.
Freezing: To freeze, remove rinds, divide into sections, and remove the seeds. Pack in a sealable plastic bag or airtight container. Remove as much oxygen as possible. Adding syrup or sugar will help sweeten the fruit when thawing later.
Preparation: Wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with warm soap and water. Make sure to wash (no soap) the citrus rind thoroughly directly before serving but not before storage. Residual moisture causes citrus to spoil faster.
