David Marguleas
Senior Vice President Sourcing, Licensing, R&D, Facilities
David is responsible for managing Sun World’s licensing and variety development programs as well as the company’s sourcing functions and packing/cold storage facilities. Ultimately, developing and delivering better fruit is the crux of David’s responsibilities. His lifelong history with Sun World has more than qualified him for such an important task.Beyond David’s 25-plus years of service with the company, he spent many high school and college summers learning the business from his father and Sun World co-founder Howard Marguleas. In 1986, after earning his bachelor’s degree in communications and food marketing from Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, David worked briefly in journalism only to return to his roots as Sun World’s manager of merchandising and corporate relations.
Becoming an officer of the company in 1990, David was instrumental in launching several specialty products for Sun World, including its branded sweet red and yellow peppers LE ROUGE ROYALE® and LE JAUNE ROYALE®, SUN WORLD SEEDLESS® watermelon and DIVINE RIPE® tomatoes.
David currently chairs the California Table Grape Commission and serves as the immediate past chairman of the California Grape & Treefruit League – both leading produce industry organizations. He is a current member of the Licensing Executives Society and in the past has been part of the Produce Marketing Association and the Cornell University Food Industry Management Program. To stay abreast of industry innovations, he’s participated in the California Agribusiness Executive Program and the Harvard Agribusiness Seminar. David not only looks out for Sun World’s produce, but he is helping to elevate fruit and vegetable standards across the globe.
Someone so knowledgeable about growing fruit probably has a few good ideas about how best to enjoy them. David recommends grilling and caramelizing BLACK DIAMOND® brand plums and SUPER STAR® brand nectarines for a delicious summer desert.
