Sun World's Variety Development Center houses one of the world's largest table grape and stone fruit ( plum, peach and apricot) breeding programs.
The Center develops new premium quality seedless grape and stone fruit. New fruit varieties are always under development and objectives include ripening within premium harvest windows, higher production, superior juiciness and flavor, cleaner brighter appearance and finish.
The Center, in operation since the late 1980s, annually produces over 35,000 hybrid seedlings from its controlled hybridization programs, and selects more than 300 potential new fruit varieties each year from those hybrid populations.
Since the program began, the Company has developed or introduced more than 100 commercial patented varieties. Today, Sun World’s grapes, peaches, plums, nectarines, and apricots are grown commercially or in trials under license by growers on 16,000 acres on five continents.
