Sun World and Food Safety



 

Producing and distributing safe, fresh supplies of fruit and vegetables has long been a valued Sun World hallmark. Qualified inspectors, frequent spot checks, staff training, packaging methods and advanced technologies have given Sun World a credible position with local, state, and federal inspection agencies. These practices contribute to Sun World’s success as a leader in the production and supply of safe, fresh fruit and vegetables.

In addition to its adoption of Integrated Pest Management, a natural means of reducing disease and controlling pests in the field and thus reducing the need for harmful pesticides, the company subscribes to a comprehensive third party food safety-pesticide certification program administered by Primus Labs.

 

Sun World's affiliation with Primus Labs:

  • helps Sun World to minimize potential hazards present in growing, packing and distributing its products

  • conducts pre-harvest pesticide residue testing by taking samples to a certified laboratory to establish that the product meets or exceeds U.S. EPA standards.

  • audits our packinghouse, cold storage and farming operations and certifies that we are in compliance with the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as set forth by the Federal government.

  • reports specific aspects of Sun World’s food safety efforts and test frequency of all pesticide residue analyses on PrimusLabs’ website at www.primuslabs.com.

Additionally, as a means of monitoring microbial or physical adulteration of its product, Sun World participates in:

-Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)

  • field and harvest crew audits

  • examinations of soil and water sources, fertilizer and chemical programs, adjacent land uses, and other risks from surrounding activities

  • the periodical review of harvesting practices and employee hygiene and sanitation issues

-Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

  • programs that identify potential sources of contamination and measures to mitigate these risks in our packinghouse and cold storage facilities.
