Growing
a Sun World stone fruit cultivar series makes sense.
While a single stone fruit
cultivar may be harvested over a 10 day period, a series of
similar cultivars ripening at 10-14 day intervals can extend
sales throughout the season. Buyers have
a consistent product that is always at its peak of
freshness. Growing a series also gives you an opportunity
to 'Brand' a product by labeling. Other advantages include:
-
Consistency:
Growers know
that all the cultivars have similar characteristics, have been tested in the
same area together, and will be consistent from one season
to the next.
-
Brand
Recognition: Producers can offer a fresh, branded product with name
recognition throughout the season. Supermarket produce
managers and customers get to know a branded product by name
and know what to expect.
-
Extended
Opportunities: Buyers
appreciate having a consistent, fresh product over a
prolonged time period.
-
Repeat
Business: If
the consumer likes a product, he/she can go back and find it
2 or 3 months later, just as fresh as it was the first time.

BLACK
DIAMOND®
brand plums have juicy red flesh and excellent sugar. They are
large, productive, consistent, and have outstanding
eating quality. Suplumeleven, the original cultivar
marketed under the BLACK DIAMOND brand, has been a
standard for flavor in the plum industry for many years.
Sun World continually develops new cultivars to extend
this series so that growers can provide a seamless flow
of unequaled quality all season long, and have an
opportunity to extend promotional power. For more

 HONEYCOT®
brand apricots are regarded by many in the produce industry as
the best early-season apricots available. HONEYCOT is a branded
series of cultivars that ripen throughout the early season,
providing a fresh branded premium apricot to buyers from early May until
early July. They are developed in California's southern San Joaquin
Valley especially for early-season conditions. HONEYCOT apricots stand
out in the produce section; they are brighter and more attractive than
other apricots, and have a hint of red blush. And HONEYCOT apricots have
superior flavor for the early season because they are bred to ripen
from the inside-out so the fruit is firm and easy to handle while
interior quality is ripe, juicy and ready to eat. For more information contact

BLACK GIANT ®
plums are amber-fleshed black plums developed to be large,
productive, consistent, and have outstanding eating
quality. The BLACK GIANT line was developed especially
for growers that want a product that packs-out in larger
size categories than what is available with traditional
varieties. Sun World researchers are continually
developing new varieties to be marketed under the BLACK
GIANT brand so that growers can provide a seamless flow
of unequaled quality and have an opportunity to extend
promotional power. For more information contact Sun

AMBER CREST ® brand
peaches
provide growers with outstanding production and size. They
are developed in California's Southern San Joaquin Valley
especially for early-harvest districts. They are large, firm,
attractive and have not developed tips in years with low
chill-accumulation. With the AMBER CREST series, growers
wanting to have a continuous supply of early-season peaches have
an opportunity to grow a proven line. For more information

Department.

Sun World's Low Chill varieties
are a breakthrough in low chill fruit development. They
thoroughly tested in the low chill Coachella Valley of California. Like other low
chill regions, the Coachella Valley is an area where traditional
stone fruit varieties cannot survive because winters are too warm for
them to come out of dormancy. Sun World's low chill varieties are bred
specifically for areas with warm winters. These varieties offer
growers an opportunity to harvest fruit very
early, at a time when traditionally no
similar stone fruit is available . We are excited about new varieties under development;
new plums, peaches, nectarines, and apricots are becoming available on a
regular basis. For more information contact Sun
World's Licensing Department.
