Welcome to Bob Wickson, New Head of Sun World-Australiasia!

Well known Australian horticulturist Bob Wickson has joined Sun World. Bob has accepted the position of Regional Licensing Manager for Australia and New Zealand. Sun World-Australiasia, located in Bathurst, New South Wales, is the company’s third international office to support commercialization of Sun World’s proprietary table grape and stone fruit varieties. Sun World-Egypt was the first to open in 1999, followed by Sun World-South Africa in 2001.
Wickson joins Sun World from ANFIC (Australian Nurserymen’s Fruit Improvement Company) where he served as General Manager for the past seven years. ANFIC, a 12-member nursery consortium with facilities and representatives throughout Australia, is licensed to introduce and commercialize Sun World fruit varieties. In his new position with Sun World, Bob will continue to work closely with ANFIC.   "I think my attribute is my experience with Australian growers and the Australian climate coupled with my knowledge of contracts and what Sun World is trying to achieve."
Wickson brings a wealth of experience to his new position as he has been involved in the produce industry for over 40 years. Bob spent 27 years with New South Wales Dept of Agriculture in the positions of District Advisor, Research Institute Manager and finally as Program Leader for Deciduous and Tropical Fruits, managing both the research and advisory aspects of the industries. During this time he played an active role in the industries, serving as Secretary for N.S.W. Apple and Pear Growers Association, Secretary for Australian Sugar Plum Growers Association, Secretary for Australian Stone Fruit Growers Association, and Interim Director of Australian Pome Fruit Improvement Program.
Bob currently resides near Sydney, on his 225 acre farm with wife Susan. In his spare time, Bob is involved in breeding and riding Arabian horses as well as participating in a sport called 'Endurance Riding', a long distance horse racing event.

Sun World R&D/Licensing provides support to help our licensed growers get the best quality from Sun World proprietary fruit varieties.  Support comes in several ways, including technical consulting, regional manager support, technical support articles, and Grower Guidelines.

The Grower Guidelines program, managed by Sun World Product Development Specialist Guy McGhie, provides basic cultural support to the grower intended to get the grower off to a good start with a new fruit variety.

Licensed growers can download Grower Guidelines in PDF format:

Cold Storage Potential Trials

Sun World R&D understands the importance of shelf-life and storability of fruit in the competitive marketplace, especially for Southern Hemisphere licensees where fruit may spend many weeks at sea and in cold storage before reaching the consumer. Therefore storability is one of the primary criteria we use to determine the economic viability of a new fruit cultivar

At the Sun World R&D Post Harvest Lab we test storability of our cultivars.  Read more about our storage trials:
